For full details and specific starting and ending dates, visit the Live Class Schedule page. But here is a quick description of our academic calendar:
At St. Thomas Aquinas Academy, a semester consists of two preparatory weeks for orientation and organization, followed by 16 academic weeks of coursework. The first semester begins in August and concludes before Christmas, while the second semester starts in January and ends by Memorial Day in May. The academic calendar outlines specific dates for breaks, including Fall, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Lent, and Easter, as well as the weekly structure.
- Black/White Schedule (♞♘) classes meet biweekly during the 16 academic weeks, totaling eight sessions per semester, plus one orientation meeting in Week B.
- Essential Schedule (✪) writing and reasoning courses meet every Tuesday during the 16 academic weeks, totaling 17 sessions, including the orientation in Week B.
Each full-time semester-long high school course takes approximately five hours per school week for sixteen weeks. This comes to about 75 course hours of studying the core texts, weekly reading comprehension/accountability quizzes, informal and formal course activities, and scheduled discussions or, in the case of live classes, Zoom discussion meetings led by the advisor.
