I am interested in enrolling in this school for the next academic year, and I just want to get a better understanding of how it works. I was wondering what the coursework would look like for grade 11 and how vigorous it would be. Would the assignments be mostly independent or would I have an instructor?
This little snippet from our website might help clarify the options:
St. Thomas Aquinas Academy offers several options for high school students to support you in meeting the goals of your homeschooling:
- A full, cohesive program with academic placement, course plans, and regular advisor support meetings as well as the option to participate in the transcript and diploma program.
- An 'Independent Study with Online Support' membership for students studying one or more courses from our STAA Study Guides. This membership features access to the weekly online reading comprehension and accountability quizzes, other members-only resources on the STAA Student Zone, and advisor support through the Q&A Forums.
- Advisor guidance in individual STAA Study Guide courses through inspiring “semi-online” discussion-based live classes. Advisor grading of the formal written assignments can even be added to this option. Learn more »
Students enrolled in the full program are placed in six academic courses each semester, tailored by the advisor through the skills assessment process and evaluation of any high school credits previous earned. This usually makes for a six-hour academic school day plus Physical Education. This FAQ article includes more information about the typical plan: How long is the typical high school day?
