Each school year, after your Course of Study Planning appointment with your academic advisor, we kindly ask STAA families to submit the Course Registration Form from their Academic Packet. This quick and easy step helps ensure your students' educational plans are tailored to their needs and goals.
Why Is the Form Important?
The Course Registration Form is a valuable tool for both you and your advisor. It allows you to:
- Confirm the courses your student will be taking, so everyone is on the same page.
- Update your student's Academic Packet, keeping their educational plan current and relevant.
- Provide access to the STAA Student Zone for older students, where they can explore course materials and take online quizzes starting August 1.
- Open semester reporting records for students enrolled in the Transcript Option, an essential step toward earning a high school diploma from St. Thomas Aquinas Academy.
Your advisor will also use the form as a handy reference during your meetings throughout the school year, making your interactions even more productive.
Completing the Form
Completing the form is straightforward and takes just a few minutes:
- Mark the courses from your Academic Packet that your student will be taking.
- Drop any courses that are not part of the plan.
- Write in any additional courses, such as swaps, substitutions, co-op, outside, or home-generated courses, that will be part of your student's educational journey.

Frequently Asked Questions
I received a reminder that my course registration is due. We have not yet completed our assessments and planning appointment, so I don't even have a planning packet yet. What should I do about course registration?
Since you haven't completed your planning appointment yet, you have several options for submitting your Course Registration Forms. Your options:
Important: The STAA website will be closed for annual maintenance from July 15–31, so online submissions must be completed by 11:59 PM on July 14.
- Complete planning quickly: If you can finish your assessments and planning appointment before July 14, submit your forms online before the deadline.
- Mail during closure: Send your completed forms by "snail" mail between July 15–31.
- Submit after reopening: Wait until the website reopens on August 1 to upload your forms
Standard deadline: Course Registration Forms are normally due September 30 or 30 days after your planning appointment, whichever comes first.
Your Course Registration Forms are required to open your student's access to the STAA Student Zone, so submit them as soon as you complete the planning process with your advisor. For detailed guidance, see the Course Registration Form Walkthrough in the STAA Handbook.
During my planning appointment, we decided to add STAA's Shakespeare course to my son's plan. How do I also add the Shakespeare course to his Course Registration Form?
You can add the Shakespeare course using the "Additional Courses" section on the last page of the Course Registration Form. Simply write in "Shakespeare" (or the full course name) in one of the blank lines provided.
For step-by-step guidance, refer to the "Add Additional Courses" section in the Course Registration Walkthrough, which includes specific details about how to write in courses. Once you submit the completed form, your advisor will use it to update your son's Academic Packet. On August 1, his access to the Shakespeare course on the STAA Student Zone will also be activated.
We originally planned for my son to study Old Testament II, but now it looks like he will be too busy with a German class at the junior college. Do we need to send in a new Course Registration Form to let you know we dropped the second semester of Old Testament?
No, you do not need to resubmit the Course Registration Form when you drop an optional course. This sort of change can easily be made by emailing your advisor or mentioning the change during a high school progress meeting. If the dropped course is essential to your son's diploma program, we will note that the course will be deferred to a future semester (see the STAA Diploma Program page or the Key Course/Diploma Application Worksheet for a list of essential and optional courses).
If you would like an updated copy of your son's Academic Packet with the course removed, you will need to send in an updated Course Registration Form. Simply make the changes and boldly write "UPDATED" near the form's title so it is clear that you are submitting a revised version of the form. Your advisor will then update your son's Academic Packet and recreate his semester reporting forms.
Do I submit the Course Registration Form to register for the live online high school classes?
No, submitting the Course Registration Form alone does not register you for the live online high school classes, but it is an essential part of the process. The live online high school classes are optional enhancements to the St. Thomas Aquinas Academy program. To fully register for these classes, you’ll need to follow these steps after your planning appointment with your academic advisor:
- Submit the Course Registration Form: This form outlines your student’s overall course plan for the year, including any live classes you’re interested in.
- Schedule a Live Class Registration Meeting: Click here to set up a meeting.
During this meeting, the high school advisor will:
- Confirm there are open seats in the desired classes.
- Verify that your student meets any prerequisites.
- Provide a payment link for the class registration fees.
- Send a link to the online Student Behavior Policy form for you and your teen to complete.
Once these steps are completed, your student will be officially registered for the live online classes. If you have additional questions about the process, feel free to reach out!
